This includes providing prisoners with education, training, and even employment opportunities that will help them adjust to life outside prison and reduce the risk of re-offending. Additionally, Norway has a strict policy of no solitary confinement and encourages prisoners to maintain contact with their families and friends.

In this episode, we will explore the controversial topic of sex offender registries. While the intention of these registries may seem like a good idea, there are many potential harms that come along with them. 
Firstly, sex offender registries can perpetuate a culture of fear and hysteria. People on the registry are often subjected to public shaming and shunning, making it difficult for them to find housing and employment. This can lead to social isolation and even homelessness. 
Additionally, sex offender registries are not always accurate. Innocent people have been mistakenly added to the registry, and there is no clear process for removing them. This can lead to long-lasting damage to their reputations and relationships. 
Furthermore, sex offender registries can create a false sense of security. Just because someone is not on the registry does not mean they are not a potential danger. This can lead to complacency and a lack of vigilance in protecting ourselves and our loved ones. 
Overall, it is important to consider the potential harms of sex offender registries and to have a thoughtful, evidence-based conversation about their effectiveness and necessity.

My Special Guest Amber Vlangas serves as Executive Director of the Restorative Action Alliance. As a member of a system-impacted family, Amber Vlangas is a civil rights activist, a survivor of sexual harm, and a speaker and advocate of re-imagining our criminal legal system.
In this episode, we explore ways to re-imagine the criminal justice system. The current system is often criticized for being unfair, biased, and ineffective in reducing crime. We discuss various ideas that could potentially transform the way we approach criminal justice.
 
One idea is to focus on prevention rather than punishment. This could involve investing in education, job training, and mental health services to address the root causes of crime. We also discuss the need to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences and reduce reliance on incarceration.
 
Another idea is to implement restorative justice practices, which involve bringing together victims, offenders, and community members to repair harm and find solutions that benefit everyone applied. This approach has been shown to reduce recidivism and promote healing.
 
Finally, we discuss the importance of addressing systemic racism and bias in the criminal justice system. This could involve diversifying the workforce, training law enforcement officers to recognize and combat bias, and implementing policies that promote equality and justice for all.
Overall, we believe re-imagining the criminal justice system is essential for creating a safer, more just society. By focusing on prevention, restorative justice, and addressing bias, we can move towards a system that truly serves the needs of all members of our communities.

It's truly regrettable that the infamous 'trial penalty' has gained such prevalence in our justice system. It's simply unjust that individuals are coerced into relinquishing their rights in order to avoid receiving an even more severe sentence. The case of Terence serves as a prime example of how the system can be manipulated, with his decision to undergo trial leading to an even more severe punishment. It's vital that we strive towards a justice system that is impartial and fair to all, and that doesn't impose penalties on individuals for exercising their right to a trial.
