Thursday Apr 13, 2023
This week I interviewed Amanda Hall, the Justice Director at Dream.org. Before joining Dream.org, Amanda was a Policy Strategist at the ACLU of Kentucky. Amanda was a leader of Kentucky Smart on Crime, a broad-based coalition working for common-sense justice reforms that enhance public safety, strengthen communities, and promote cost-effective sentencing alternatives. Prior to policy work, Amanda served as program director of The Healing Place for Women in Louisville, KY. Amanda graduated from the University of Louisville with a Master’s degree in Social Work. Amanda has been directly impacted by the criminal legal system and has a personal passion and drive to end mass incarceration and to create a better world in its place.

Guest - Alex Bailey with The Sentencing Project
Thursday Mar 23, 2023
Thursday Mar 23, 2023
My guest in this episode Alexandra Bailey from the Sentencing Project . The Sentencing Project advocates for effective and humane responses to crime that minimize imprisonment and criminalization of youth and adults by promoting racial, ethnic, economic, and gender justice. Alexandra Bailey supports state and local advocates working to challenge the nation’s life sentencing laws. Her priorities include supporting efforts to end life without parole, capping maximum penalties at 20 years, promoting “second look” provisions, and fostering a culture shift that rejects excessive punishments in favor of restorative approaches to public safety.

Black Light Mass Incarceration Show
In this episode I sat down with Hunter Parnell who is a successful podcaster running Public Defenseless. The Public Defenseless Podcast uncovers the rot at the heart of our criminal justice system and what you can do about it. On every episode, we speak with Public Defenders, other stakeholders in the criminal justice system, or advocates for criminal justice initiatives to demonstrate how every aspect of the criminal justice system works in concert to produce better outcomes for our communities. Far too often, we fail to understand the vital role that Public Defenders play in promoting safer, healthier communities with their zealous advocacy both in and out of the courtroom.
